Authorities arrested a Stillwater man accused of soliciting sex from a 14-year-old female. Canadian County Sheriff's officials said 55-year-old Mark Wayne Craine was arrested on Wednesday, March 11.
Investigators with the Internet Crimes Against Children unit found Craine was aggressively pursuing a sexual relationship with an undercover investigator on Facebook pretending to be a 14-year-old girl. After the decoy accepted Craine's friend request, investigators said Craine “led the conversation down the path of what would be considered deviant sexual behavior for an adult, let alone an innocent child.”
Investigators said they then learned Craine was planning to abduct the girl from her Yukon residence and flee to the mountains in Colorado, they said they became seriously concerned that he might actually carry out the plan on a real live person.
"When my investigator told me about Craine's plans to escape from what he referred to as "Man's law" I said it's time to intervene before he actually carries out his sick fantasy on a living, breathing child," said Randall Edwards, Canadian County Sheriff.
Authorities said Craine admitted his plan to take the child and evade authorities after he was arrested at his Stillwater apartment.
Canadian County investigators said Craine was unemployed, living with his son and receiving government assistance which had provided him the phone he had used to carry out some of his unlawful actions.
UPDATE: Craine pleaded guilty to two counts of lewd or indecent proposal. He was ordered to serve three years in prison and be on probation for seven years.
