ODOT: Oklahoma Roads Slick In Spots, But Improving

?Roads across Oklahoma are still slick in spots, but are improving Tuesday afternoon after snow covered much of the state on Monday. 

According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, roadways continue to improve across the state, but slick spots remain with icy, hazardous conditions still impacting portions of eastern and central Oklahoma.

The right lanes of eastbound and westbound I-40 in eastern Oklahoma are clear while passing lanes are improving but remain slick in areas. Crews are reporting the southern portion of I-35 as clear.

ODOT crews will continue salt, sand and plowing operations as long as conditions warrant. Drivers should remain alert to these trucks working throughout the day and stay at least 200 feet behind snow plows.

As conditions continue to improve, drivers are reminded to give themselves extra time to return home during the evening commute. Drivers need to remain alert to black ice, which is ice that can appear wet but is very slick, and use caution on bridges, overpasses and ramps.

Roads were slick and hazardous earlier on Tuesday morning. In the Oklahoma City metro area, just before 6 a.m., crews responded to a crash at the Ft. Smith Junction. The right lane was blocked on I-35 northbound, north of I-40.

At about 3:30 a.m., Canadian County Sheriff's deputies responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash at S.W. 29th and Radio Street, south of El Reno.

According to EMSA, in the Oklahoma City metro area, crews responded to nine accidents with injury, eight slips and falls, and one cold exposure as of 12 p.m. Tuesday.
