After dropping two straight Big 12 games—both on the road—the Oklahoma women's basketball team needed a boost.
The Sooners found it at home in Norman Wednesday morning, as the Sooners took down Iowa State, 75-66 at Lloyd Noble Center.
The unusual game time was to accommodate the majority of the Sooners' fans on Wednesday—nearly 4,500 screaming elementary school students crowded into the arena for Field Trip Day. For those who are unaware, it doesn't take a lot of kids to generate a lot of noise, and the xxxx fans in Norman made the LNC sound like a sold-out arena.
On the court, the Sooners were terrific, sharing the ball well on offense and limiting the Cyclones' offense on the defensive end. Oklahoma couldn't contain the Cyclone's star, Nikki Moody—especially in the second half—but the Sooners made her do it alone. Moody finished with 30 points but no other ISU player scored in double figures.
The Sooners on the other hand boasted a well-balanced attack, with four players scoring in double figures and Maddie Manning scoring nine points. Peyton Little led the way with 18 points, hitting four shots from behind the arc. Kaylon Williams had 14 points, Gabbi Ortiz had 11 and Gioya Carter finished with 10.
The Sooners had seven players with an assist and six of those had multiple assists. The Sooners also crushed the Cyclones on the glass, 43-26.
With the win, OU moved to 8-2 in conference play, two games behind Baylor and three games clear of the next-closest team in the conference standings. It's a whole week before the Sooners takes on the Lady Bears for the first time, but the Sooners are back on track after a slight swoon last week.
