The shrinking cost of surveillance cameras Moore police said is helping to drive a new effort at spotting crime. Police called it their 'Private Security Camera Registration Program.'
Police spokesman Jeremy Lewis said homeowners who register on the city's website may be called upon by police to show them surveillance video, if there is a crime in their area.
Jerry Meek said surveillance cameras mounted on his house were instrumental in catching a thief who burglarized a neighbor a few years ago. He was one of about three dozen homeowners who has registered their cameras with the city so far.
“I believe it's being a good neighbor, and good citizens,” he said.
Sgt. Lewis said the program is a win-win. “You're not giving up any privacy,” he said.
