Oklahoma City police have identified a robbery suspect who was shot and killed by officers early Saturday morning.

According to police, at about 2:30 a.m. officers responded to the report of a robbery at 7-Eleven, located at 3624 N. Penn. The caller gave police a description of the suspect. Sgt. Tyrel Hynd was the first officer to arrive in the area and he quickly spotted a person fitting the description walking north from the 7-Eleven.

When Sgt. Hynd made contact with the suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Jeremy M. Sherbon, and attempted to detain him, Sherbon reportedly got into a physical altercation with Sgt. Hynd. That's when Sherbon took the officer's gun away from him and immediately began shooting at him.

Sherbon, police said, missed the officer and began running north.

Master Sergeant Matt Wallace was the second officer to arrive at the scene, and police said he saw Sherbon attempting to shoot Sgt. Hynd. Msgt. Wallace then discharged his weapon in Sherbon's direction.

Master Sergeant Jeff Fale was the third officer to arrive. When MSgt. Fale attempted to exit his vehicle, Sherbon reportedly turned and fired multiple shots at MSgt. Fale, missing him but hitting his police cruiser.

According to police, both MSgt. Fale and MSgt. Wallace returned fire as Sherbon continued to fire shots at the officers. Sherbon was shot and died at the scene.

Police said Sgt. Hynd was hurt in the altercation, but was treated and released from the hospital. All three officers will be placed on routine administrative leave with pay pending an investigation.
