Fire crews responded to a house fire in southwest Oklahoma City, Sunday morning.

The fire was reported at 9:32 a.m. in the 2700 block of S.W. 123rd Street.

Major John Hanson, acting district chief for the Oklahoma City Fire Department, said the 3,500 square foot home had visible smoke and flames coming through the roof when firefighters arrived.

Hanson said the occupant told officials the fire started on the back patio, and he thought he had it extinguished, but about 30 minutes later, a smoke detector went off upstairs and then he called 911.

About 75 percent of the home was lost to the fire, and the majority of the damage was to the upper floor of the home, according to Hanson.

“Never delay a call to 911, even if you think you have the fire out," said Hanson. "Call 911. We'll come out, check it just to make sure.”

Officials said there were no injuries report with this fire, but a neighbor was transported to the hospital for anxiety.

Hanson said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
