A three-run third inning and a clutch relief appearance from junior Shelby Pendley gave No. 16 Oklahoma (21-8) a 3-2 win Sunday over LSU (19-12) to complete a two-game sweep.
Oklahoma scored three runs in the third inning behind a throwing error on LSU's catcher on a double steal, an RBI double by senior Brittany Williams and another throwing error by the Tigers' pitcher.
In the fifth inning, LSU had already scored one run to trim the Sooners' lead to 3-2 and found themselves with the bases loaded and one out. Junior Shelby Pendley came on in relief of starting sophomore Kelsey Stevens and promptly struck out the next two hitters to end the scoring threat.
Pendley threw the final 2.2 innings and allowed just one hit with no runs, no walks and two strikeouts to earn the first win of her collegiate career.
At the plate, Pendley finished 2-for-2 with a walk and run scored. Her hitting streak stands a career-best 13 games.
Junior Georgia Casey and senior Brittany Williams also collected two hits in the game. Casey was 2-for-3 with a run a scored, while Williams was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run driven in.
