A week ago, a fire destroyed 12 units at the Briarwood Apartment complex in Woodward. It was the second fire in the last two months.

A Woodward family isn't focused on what was lost in the fire but what survived.

Kayla Garris and her family don't have much left after fire ripped through their apartment last Saturday.

Firefighters battled sleet, snow and frigid temperatures fighting these flames but could not save the building.

The Garris family was sure they lost their beloved pet, Bean.

"He went back in numerous times, flipping furniture over, trying to find her," said Kayla Garris. "And, then after maybe four or five times of going back in, not being able to stand the smoke anymore, the firefighters told us we had to leave. We thought she was gone."

But buried under the rubble, the little cat that could was found 24 hours later.

"In the southeast corner apartments if there was anything that may have survived, that's where it was at and that's where the cat was at," Woodward Fire Chief Steve Day said.

"She survived everything. The fire, the smoke, the snow, the sleet. The bulldozing, you know! She made it through everything and that just it made it so much better," Garris said.

"Obviously there are some things you can't get back, but having Lydia and Roderick and Bean, we can do it together," Garris added.
