A Democratic state representative from Oklahoma City said she plans to seek a state Senate seat that will be open this year.
State Representative Kay Floyd announced Monday that she would be a candidate for the State Senate District 46 seat being vacated by Senator Al McAffrey, who is running for Congress.
Floyd was elected to the Oklahoma House in 2012 and filled McAffrey's seat there when he left to run for state Senate.
The traditionally Democratic state Senate seat includes a mix of trendy areas like the Paseo art and the Midtown districts, along with more conservative segments of south Oklahoma City.
Floyd is a former assistant attorney general and a state administrative law judge.
