Family Seeks Justice After OK Woman Hit By Car Dies

The family of an Oklahoma woman hit and killed by a vehicle wants justice.

Melissa Henderson was struck on January 11 in Newalla, Oklahoma and died the next day.

It happened in front of the home she shared with her boyfriend, and the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office said the boyfriend was the one behind the wheel.

The sheriff's office is investigating the case, and Henderson's family is eager for answers.

"She died 16 days ago so it's a roller coaster of emotions right now for everybody," Mike Rogers, Henderson's cousin, said.

Henderson's family started a Facebook page called "Justice for Melissa" to find out exactly what happened that night.

"She had a great heart, she loved people, she lit up a room when she walked in it. Every time I saw her, she made me smile," Rogers said.

Henderson's family said she and her boyfriend had a violent past and they don't believe her death was an accident.

Henderson's boyfriend was on probation for assault and battery with a deadly weapon when Henderson was hit and killed.

"She should have been out of that relationship as soon as he hit her the first time," Rogers added.

The Cleveland County Sheriff's Office said this case is being investigated as a traffic collision.

A spokesperson said detectives are awaiting the medical examiner's report and the toxicology reports before they can proceed.

"Our detectives are being very thorough, they're going to process all the evidence and the evidence will tell the story," Meghan McCormick, Cleveland County Sheriff's Office spokesperson, said.

The sheriff's office confirmed that deputies responded to the couple's Newalla home three times in the past for domestic-related calls.

"We want to bring it all out to light, we want to make sure that he's held accountable for his actions and that he does pay for what he did to Melissa," Rogers said.

The driver of the vehicle told News 9 he was not ready to talk on camera because he is still grieving.

Once the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office wraps up its investigation, detectives will hand it over to the Cleveland County District Attorney to see if any charges will be filed.
