Things looked good for the Oklahoma Sooners on Tuesday night at Kansas State.
OU held a six-point lead with less than six minutes to play, but a long cold streak buried the Sooners' hopes in a 72-66 loss in the "Octagon of Doom."
OU used a 15-5 run in the second half to build a 62-56 lead with 5:37 to go, but that's when things took a turn for the worse.
The Sooners didn't connect on a field goal from the 6:16 mark until Ryan Spangler's dunk with just eight seconds remaining. Kansas State outscored Oklahoma 16-4 in the final six minutes to seal the victory.
Ryan Spangler led the Sooners with a tremendous performance. Spangler scored 21 points on 6-9 shooting and hauled in 14 rebounds. He also hit 9-11 from the free-throw line. Buddy Heild was the only other Sooner in double-figures, but he struggled to get there. Heild scored 12 points on 5-16 shooting while also dishing out five assists.
Kansas State brought a balanced attack with five players reaching double-figures. Marcus Foster led the Cats with 18 points and five assists, while Shane Southwell scored 16 to go with eight boards. Wesley Iwundu added 11 points on 4-6 shooting, while Will Spradling and Nino Williams each scored 10.
OU was outrebounded 42-38 and recorded just 13 assists to KSU's 16. The Sooners shot a lowly 33.3 percent from the floor and 7-23 (30.4 percent) from the 3-point line. Kansas State shot 42 percent from the field and 11-21 (52.4 percent) from downtown.
Kansas State held a 39-38 lead at the half, and outscored OU 33-28 in the second.

The Sooners head to No. 12 Baylor on Saturday. Tip time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
