State Safe Deposit Box Auction To Take Place Next Wednesday

If you're looking for a unique Christmas gift, you may want to check out the State Safe Deposit Box Auction next Wednesday.

Dakil Auctioneers off N.W. 14th Street will be auctioning off the contents of 750 safe deposit boxes that the state has accumulated because they've gone unclaimed over the past five years.

Louis Dakil says next Wednesday's auction will draw at least 500 bidders.

"Very valuable items, you solid silver bars here, you got diamonds and jewelry, coin collections," he said. "Anything you'd find in a safe deposit box."

State Treasurer Ken Miller says these auctions occur every five or so years, to prevent too much of a backlog of merchandise.
