Cowgirls Record Dramatic Win Against UNT

DENTON, Texas – Krissi Killion's golden goal in the first overtime period lifted Oklahoma State to a 2-1 win over North Texas Sunday night at Mean Green Soccer Stadium.

Down to 10 players for the final 15 minutes of the match in a game marred by 52 fouls, nine yellow cards and three red cards, the Cowgirls persevered to improve to 4-2-3 on the season.

After 90 minutes, regulation ended with the two teams tied 1-1. But it wouldn't take long for the Cowgirls to change that and head home happy.

Just 3:01 into the first overtime, Allie Stephenson delivered a pass to Killion, who blasted a shot from 22-yards out to the upper far post to set off an OSU celebration. The goal was Killion's second of the season and the first game-winner of the freshman's career.

Stephenson also contributed OSU's first score as the Cowgirls took the game's initial lead in the 41^st minute when Courtney Dike and Stephenson hooked up for a goal. Dike sent a short pass to Stephenson, who made a move around her defender and drilled left-footed shot from 16-yards out into the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season.

Stephenson's goal snapped a UNT streak of over 422 minutes without allowing a goal, a stretch that spanned more than four games dating back to Sept. 1 against Virginia Tech.

OSU held the 1-0 lead until the 66^th minute when UNT's leading scorer, Rachel Holden, provided the equalizer with her 10^th goal of the season.

UNT (6-3-0) nearly took the lead just 60 seconds later, but Michela Ongaro made a great save on a header from inside the six-yard box by Amber Haggerty.

Next it was the Cowgirls with a near miss as Dike lined a shot just wide of the far post.

Neither team could convert its other opportunities during the remainder of regulation as the game went into overtime, with OSU owning a 15-10 advantage in shots.

In a game in which OSU started four freshmen, Killion wasn't the only rookie who came up big. In her first-ever start in goal, Ongaro picked up the win as the Cowgirls' freshman goalie recorded five saves on 10 UNT shots.

OSU returns to action Friday night when it opens Big 12 Conference play against West Virginia at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.

Oklahoma Battles to Draw with Utah

Salt Lake City, Utah -- The Oklahoma soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie in double-overtime against Utah on Sunday afternoon to close the Sooners' 2013 non-conference slate. OU (3-6-1) and the Utes (4-1-4) ground out a defensive battle that resulted in the Sooners' first overtime contest of the 2013 season and Utah's fourth. Oklahoma limited the Utes to one goal in 110 minutes of play; prior to Sunday's contest, Utah was outscoring its 2013 opponents by a margin of 17-3.

"We have done the hard part on the road to go ahead early; now we have to learn to finish the game out," head coach Matt Potter said. "I can't help but feel that we became a better team this weekend. We have competed with two established programs who will do well in their respective conferences--especially at home."

The Sooners and the Utes battled through a scoreless first half, marking the third time this season OU has played to a 0-0 tie a half. Oklahoma's offensive attack put pressure on Utah goalkeeper Lindsey Luke, forcing Luke to make four saves on four shots to maintain the tie. Utah fired four shots as well, but three went either high or wide of the goal and OU goalkeeper Kassadie Stade made a save on a fourth.

A stellar second-effort by Daisy Cardona gave Oklahoma a 1-0 lead shortly after the second half opened in the 49th minute. After Luke fumbled the ball near the box, Cardona stole the ball away and fired in her fourth goal of the season and her third goal in four matches. Utah responded by sending a shot at Stade minutes later, but Stade scooped up the save to keep the Utes off the board.

The Sooners continued to put offensive pressure on Utah as the second half rolled on, posting three shots in under three minutes to keep Luke on her toes in the goal. The Utes struck back in the 78th minute of play when Avery Ford slipped a ball past Stade to tie things up at 1-1. Utah fired four more shots before the end of regulation play, including three on goal, but Stade made three big saves to maintain the tie and send the match to overtime.

The match remained scoreless through the first overtime despite a trio of shots by the Sooners. Abby Hodgen and Cardona both posted shots that sailed wide of the goal, and Lisa Robinson sent in a shot on goal that Luke got in front of to keep the score at 1-1. The second overtime was pure defense, with no shots from either team and only a duo of fouls to mark the game's final ten minutes of play.

"We learned something new today as we dealt with overtime," Potter said. "That bodes well for our conference season. We'll leave Utah knowing we have much to offer as a team and that, with smarts, we can compete with anyone."

Oklahoma opens Big 12 conference play next weekend as it goes on the road to face No. 13 Baylor in Waco, Texas at Betty Lou Mays Field. The Sooners and the Lady Bears are set to square off on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. CT. OU's Big 12 home opener and second of two Bedlam matchups this season will take place at the OU Soccer Complex on Friday, Oct. 4.

Hinch Scores for Tulsa in 1-0 Win Over UC-Riverside

Riverside, Calif. – Bradi Hinch's goal gave the Tulsa women's soccer team a 1-0 win over UC-Riverside on Sunday afternoon at UCR Soccer Stadium in Riverside, Calif. TU moved to 6-3 on the season, while the Highlanders fell to 3-6-1 overall.

Hinch scored at the 23:06 mark as she drilled in a kick from 15 yards out off a goal kick taken by Hayley Harryman. This was Hinch's fifth goal of the season and ninth of her career.

Hinch led TU with two shots, while Kajal Parmar, Lana Bermel and Alexa Sidorakis each had one attempt. Harryman logged all 90 minutes in goal, picked up five saves and earned her fourth shutout on the year.

The Highlanders had a 16-5 lead in shots, including a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal, and a 4-1 lead in corner kicks.

Tulsa will return to action on Friday, Sept. 27 against LA Tech. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.

Parsons scores twice as ORU shuts out Lamar, 3-0

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Oral Roberts University women's soccer team scored three goals in six minutes en route to the Golden Eagles' second victory in as many days as they defeated Lamar on Sunday, 3-0.

ORU moved its record to 2-0 in Southland Conference play and 7-2 overall, giving the Golden Eagles their best nine-game start in program history. With the loss, the Cardinals dropped to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in the SLC.

Battling back and forth through the first 35 minutes, the Golden Eagles turned up the heat in the 35th minute, netting a pair of goals just 62 seconds apart. Jordan Parsons started the scoring as she got a head on a cross from Kayla Keller, converting it for the goal. A short time later, Keller added the second ORU goal of the match and her fourth of the year.

In the 41st minute, Parsons struck again as she took possession of the ball near midfield, scoring her third goal of the season on a breakaway, extending the ORU lead to 3-0.

Midway through the second half, Jennifer Abernathy had the best opportunity to increase the ORU lead as she was called upon to take a penalty kick. However, Lamar keeper Bailey Fontenot knocked it down for the save.

Maddie Rhodes continues to impress in the net for ORU as she earned her first solo shutout of the season and the second of her career. She recorded three saves to move to 3-1 on the season. Fontenot took the loss for the Cardinals as she earned six saves in 82 minutes, while Zoey Stephenson had a save in the final eight minutes.

Parsons finished the afternoon with four of ORU's 10 shots on goal. Jennifer Abernathy and Maria Stordahl each had two on target, while Keller and Ashley Martin had a solid look.

The Golden Eagles outshot the Cardinals, 24-13.

ORU has a week off until they return to action at the Case Soccer Complex next Sunday against first-year program Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Start time against the Islanders is set for 1 p.m.
