While the controversy over wind farm expansion unfolds in Piedmont, the Mayor of Weatherford weighed in Wednesday.
Mike Brown took office about a year before the first of 98 wind turbines were built in Weatherford in 2005.
Brown says the wind farm has been an economic boon for the community. He says the city and the Weatherford school district receive annual payments from the Florida company that built the wind farm.
Piedmont's biggest concern about any wind farm being built anywhere close to Piedmont city limits is that it will drive down property values. Brown says Weatherford has had no such trouble.
"We've just gone through our two biggest years as far as new homes being built here in Weatherford," he said. "And prices continue to go up, they're not going down."
