Gov. Fallin Rides Harley At Governors Conference In Wisconsin

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin joined several other governors in a Harley-Davidson motorcycle ride in Milwaukee Friday, as part of an event during the National Governors Association meeting.

Gov. Fallin and her staff are at the summer meeting of the National Governors Association in Milwaukee, where Fallin is expected to assume the chairmanship of the group.

Fallin arrived in Milwaukee on Thursday and is expected to announce her chair's initiative on Sunday when she formally takes over the association's top post from Delaware Gov. Jack Markell.

A Harley-Davidson motorcycle ride capped off the first day of meetings. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says Fallin has taken motorcycle riding lessons.

Gov. Fallin and Gov. Walker, along with former Gov. Tommy Thompson, Govs. John Hickenlooper of Colorado, Phil Bryant of Mississippi, Dennis Daugaard of South Dakota and Gary Herbert of Utah, completed the motorcycle ride through the streets of Milwaukee Friday night.

About 100 combat veterans, including Medal of Honor winner Gary Wetzel, joined with the governors.

Wiscounsin Gov. Walker wore a Harley jacket and blue jeans. The other governors were similarly dressed. Hickenlooper had on a leather jacket and khaki pants.

They ended the ride at the Harley-Davidson Museum as the song "Born to Be Wild" blasted over the outdoor speakers.

Fallin spokesman Alex Weintz says the governor and her staff will be attending seminars throughout the week to learn about best practices on topics like health care, homeland security, economic development and transportation.

Twenty three governors are attending the meeting that wraps up Sunday.
