A game against Memphis inside Gallagher-Iba Arena highlights the non-conference portion of the 2013-14 Oklahoma State Cowboy Basketball schedule, announced today by head coach Travis Ford. The Tigers will visit Stillwater on Tuesday, Nov. 19, in a game televised by ESPN.
"We have set up some very exciting games during the non-conference portion of our schedule," Ford said. "We will play some challenging games, both at home and away. It will not only help us prepare for the Big 12 schedule, but the postseason as well. Ultimately, we want to give our team an opportunity to get better over the course of the season, and also provide our fans with some enjoyable games inside Gallagher-Iba Arena."
OSU will open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 8, as the Cowboys host Mississippi Valley State. Oklahoma State will host Utah Valley State on Nov. 12 and Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Nov. 15, leading into the marquee matchup against Memphis. The Tigers finished 31-5 last season, won the Conference USA title and ranked in the top 20 in both national polls.
The Cowboys will travel to Tampa, Fla., to take on the USF Bulls on Monday, Nov. 25, and then venture down to Orlando for the Old Spice Classic, Nov. 28-Dec. 1. OSU will face Purdue in the opening round on Thanksgiving Day, followed by a matchup against either Butler or Washington State the following day. Butler finished 26-9 a year ago. A rematch with Memphis is possible in the final round on Sunday, Dec. 1, with LSU, Saint Joseph's and Siena as other possible opponents.
Oklahoma State will return home to host South Carolina in the inaugural Big 12/SEC Challenge on Friday, Dec. 6. After a week off for finals, the Cowboys will head down to Oklahoma City for a doubleheader with the women's team in the All-College Classic at the Chesapeake Energy Arena on Saturday, Dec. 14. OSU's opponent will be announced early next week.
The Cowboys will host Delaware State on Tuesday, Dec. 17, then travel to Las Vegas, Nev., to take on former conference rival Colorado in the MGM Grand Showcase on Saturday, Dec. 21. That game will be played as part of a doubleheader at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, with New Mexico and Marquette playing the first contest. The Buffaloes were 21-12 last season.
OSU will wrap up the non-conference portion of the schedule on Monday, Dec. 30, as the Cowboys host Robert Morris. The Colonials finished 24-11 a year ago, won the Northeast Conference title and defeated Kentucky in the National Invitation Tournament.
All non-conference home games not on the ESPN family of networks will be televised by the Cowboy Sports Network.
