Officials Evaluate Impact From Central OK Storms, Tornadoes

Officials with the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management are evaluating the impact from severe storms that passed through central Oklahoma and multiple tornadoes that touched down in the Oklahoma City metro area, Friday evening.

The National Weather Service in Norman also has three teams that will be conducting damage survey on Saturday. One in El Reno/ Union City, one in southwest Oklahoma City, and one in Valley Brook/Tinker AFB area.

DAMAGE REPORTS:

Canadian County Emergency Management reports damage to Canadian Valley Technology Center and OKC West Livestock Market. Several homes and mobile homes are also reported damaged.

Checotah Emergency Management reports numerous road washouts and flooding. Checotah Intermediate School has flood damage.

Del City Emergency Management reports flooding, but no additional damage from Friday's storms.

Hughes County Emergency Management reports flooding on roads and bridge washouts.

Midwest City Emergency Management reports they have evacuated a mobile home park near 16th and Air Depot due to extensive flooding.

Oklahoma City Emergency Management reports localized power outages, extensive flash flooding throughout the city, minor flooding to buildings, and debris from trees and other vegetation.

Okmulgee County Emergency Management reports extensive high water flooding. Cole Creek, Henrietta and Dewar areas have heavy flooding with cars underwater.

Damage assessments in the impacted areas are ongoing.

FATALITIES AND INJURIES

Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirms nine fatalities from Friday night's storms. The victims include two children and seven adults.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports 104 injuries were treated by Oklahoma City area hospitals as a result of Friday's storms. The injuries include 56 cut/pierce, 15 struck by/against, 14 falls, and 19 transportation related.

Additionally, OSDH reports three Oklahoma City area medical facilities remain on generator power: St Anthony South Healthplex, Community Hospital, and Oklahoma Heart South.

ROAD CLOSURES

Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Oklahoma Department of Transportation report numerous roads remain closed today. Drivers are cautioned to heed warning signs and not drive around barricades.
