The Oklahoma City RedHawks played their first game of the season at home Friday night, falling to the Memphis Redbirds, 10-6.
There were plenty of hits in the game, as the two teams combined for 31 hits, nine of those for extra bases.
Seth Maness picked up the win for Memphis, limiting OKC to eight hits and a single run over six innings of work. Brett Oberholtzer took the loss for the RedHawks, surrendering six runs on six hits in just three innings.
Memphis wasted no time jumping out to a lead, as Brock Peterson blasted a three-run homer in the top of the first inning to stake the Redbirds to a 3-0 lead. In the second inning, Memphis put two more runs on the board, and then scored a run in the third and fourth innings to grab a 7-0 lead.
Jake Elmore hit a two-out double in the fifth to keep the inning alive for the RedHawks. Trevor Crowe's two-out single to center scored Elmore to break the shutout and cut the Memphis lead to 7-1. Brandon Laird's single on a line drive to right field pushed Crowe to second, but Jimmy Paredes struck out swinging to close the inning.
The Redbirds added two more runs in the seventh before Laird's single to center in the bottom of the inning scored Robbie Grossman to cut the Memphis lead to 9-2.
The RedHawks scored five runs in the final three innings, including Krauss' second homer of the season in the eighth.
Paredes' single to shortstop scored Elmore in the ninth. A Krauss single scored Crowe and Paredes.
The home series with Memphis continues with a 7:05 p.m. game Saturday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
