A former child welfare worker is accused of sexually abusing children. The case is set for trial in Canadian County. News 9 found out his position with the state agency is not the only job that put him close to children.

The suspect worked as a school teacher both before and after his short stint with OKDHS where he first met the alleged victims in this case.

Jarod Condit served as a child welfare specialist for five months. During that time, the job gave him access to children in the foster system.

Investigators say when Condit could not find homes for three of the children in the system he quit DHS and went through the adoption process himself.

"DHS requires all foster and adoptive parents to pass criminal background checks, home studies, and undergo extensive training before children are placed in a home," said OKDHS spokesperson Sheree Powell.

Still, court records show Condit sexually abused two of the three children he adopted in 2010. The following year, the 10 and 11-year-old adopted sons reported the abuse to a neighbor.

Documents reveal the children told investigators that Condit "threatened to kill the boys" if they told anyone.

The state agency responded by saying "Sadly, all of these safeguards are not fool-proof predictors of potential criminal behavior. Nothing is more sickening than an adult who intentionally deceives the system to do harm to a child."

According to a portion of his resignation letter provided to News9 by DHS, Condit left OKDHS because "he wanted to return to teaching."

We're told he was working for the Oklahoma City Public School District at the time of his arrest. The OKCPS District did not respond to our request for comment before this story aired.

We were unable to reach the defense attorney for comment on the case. Prosecutors declined to comment at this time. Condit is set for trial on February 4.
