The Oklahoma City RedHawks pounded out 12 hits en route to a 10-8 victory over the Iowa Cubs at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark Wednesday night.
The RedHawks were led by catcher Chris Wallace, who went 3-4 during the game and drove in three runs. Brandon Barnes also drove in three runs for Oklahoma City while going 2-5 from the plate, with a double.
Iowa jumped out to a 3-0 leading early, scoring a run in the first and two in the second, but the RedHawks rallied quickly, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third inning, and then put up four runs in the fourth inning on just three singles. A sacrifice fly, wild pitch, and a fielder's choice scored three of the four runs.
After both teams scored a run in the fifth inning, the RedHawks scored three in the bottom of the seventh inning to put the lead out of reach.
The Cubs didn't go quietly, scoring four runs in the top of the ninth to cut the deficit to just two runs, but the Cubs were unable to get any closer.
Chris Rusin took the loss for the Cubs, giving up 10 hits and seven runs in five innings of work. Brett Oberholtzer got the win for Oklahoma City, and Jose Valdez picked up his 14th save of the year, recording the final out of the game.
The two teams are back in action for game three of a four-game series on Thursday. First pitch from The Brick will be at 7:05 p.m.
