Oklahoma Sooners sophomore kicker Michael Hunnicutt was named to the watch list for the Lou Groza Award on Wednesday. The award is presented annually to college football's most outstanding placekicker.
Hunnicutt is coming off an honorable mention All-Big 12 season, where he took over the starting kicker duties for OU in the third game of the season and finished the year with a Big 12 freshman record 21 made field goals. The number also tied the OU single-season record.
The Richardson, Texas native became the first OU kicker to make four field goals in a pair of games in the same season. Hunnicutt kicked four against Kansas, where he totaled 17 points, another OU record, and Iowa State.
Hunnicutt also hit on all four of his attempts from 40 yards or longer, including a 53-yard field goal at Kansas State, the longest in the Bob Stoops era.
The winner of the award will be announced on Dec. 6 in Orlando, Fla.
