We Paid For It: I.T. Services

It's hard to imagine a day without computers. Most of us rely on one for work. The same goes for our state government. Last year appropriated state agencies spent $285,000,000 of our tax dollars on I.T. services. Now a new law is saving us millions.

The I.T. Consolidation Bill requires state agencies to combine their information technology services, eliminating unnecessary positions and cutting server costs in half.

Rep. Jason Murphey said the law is expected to save us $172,000,000 over 7 years. We've already seen $30,000,000 slashed from I.T. services in 2012.

"The intent behind the legislation was to take a very inefficient I.T. process that were spread out among several different agencies and combine them into one efficient service that's more safe from security perspective, offered more transparency to the tax payer and cut cost to the tax payer," Rep. Jason Murphey said.
