Since the first MAPS went before voters in 1993, I've been telling people don't vote for this because you hope it will turn Oklahoma City into a vacation destination similar to San Antonio.
Vote for these improvements because you want to enjoy them.
The same can be said for the 1/8th of a penny sales tax that has been dedicated to the Oklahoma City Zoo for the past 22 years.
That money has helped our zoo grow into a world class attraction.
I bring it up because an Oklahoma City councilman wants to study whether it's time to redirect that money toward public safety or street improvements.
No, it's not.
That 1/8th of a penny tax is building something Oklahomans will enjoy for generations to come.. let's keep going.
If you haven't been there in a few years, it doesn't even remotely resemble the old concrete and steel cage zoo of my childhood.
The amazing natural habitats, the Cat Forest, the Great EscApe, for the Apes and such, the new Oklahoma Trails exhibit, Aquaticus.
My kids are older now, so we don't get out there as much, but the Oklahoma City Zoo is a favorite destination for thousands of young families and out of town visitors we need to keep building on that success.
