A family in northern Oklahoma is desperate for answers after their son went missing following a boating incident on a lake near Ponca City Saturday.
The Kay County Sheriff's Office responded to the original call, but say the Oklahoma Highway Patrol is now in charge.
A family friend, who wished not to be identified, says 19-year-old Tyler Wooley was on a tube when it over-turned and he never came up. Another 19-year-old on the boat, James Goodman, tried to go in the water to find Wooley, but he was caught in the propeller and cut his leg badly.
Goodman was air-lifted to a Tulsa hospital to be treated for his injuries. He has since been released from Saint Francis Hospital.
"They were out there boating and then Tyler, the one that's missing, he was on a tube without a life-jacket and a wave flipped him over and he drank a lot of water and he panicked I guess and he went under," said the friend.
The Kay County Sheriff's Office says the Oklahoma Highway Patrol was called in to assist in the search for Wooley. Friends of Wooley say they weren't able to find him by sunset Saturday and rescue crews were back on the lake Sunday trying again. So far they haven't heard if Wooley was found.
News 9 is waiting on word from OHP regarding their search.
Tyler Wooley's 20th birthday is just two days away.
