Severe Storms, Large Hail Possible In Oklahoma With Approaching Cold Front

A cold front approaching the state will bring a chance of severe storms Sunday afternoon and evening.

According to News 9 Meteorologist Matt Mahler, the cold front will interact with the warm and unstable air mass covering most of the state, which will bring an opportunity for severe storms.

The storms are expected to move into central Oklahoma Sunday afternoon and continue across eastern Oklahoma into western Arkansas.

The weather service says wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour are possible with hail ranging from tennis ball- to baseball-sized. The weather service says the threat of a tornado is low.

"The primary threats will be large hail and damaging winds, but, as always here in Oklahoma, a couple of isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out," Mahler said.

As of 12 p.m. Sunday, there is no severe weather. However, News 9 received reports that tornado sirens are being heard in parts of Oklahoma City. Residents in those areas do not need to be alarmed at this time.
