NFL Draft Day 2: OU's Broyles, Stephenson, Fleming Selected

Ryan Broyles, 54th overall, Detroit Lions

OU wide receiver Ryan Broyles was selected 54th overall by the Detroit Lions on Friday in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Broyles has been recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in an OU win over Texas A&M in November.

But his accomplishments and talent he displayed at OU combined with a quick recovery led him to be drafted higher than many had projected after he suffered the injury. Broyles rehabbed quickly enough to run a 4.57-second 40-yard dash in front of NFL scouts just five months after the injury.

Broyles will join an already solid receiving corps including one of the top receivers in the league in Calvin Johnson on the outside.

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was third in the NFL last season in both passing yards and touchdowns. Broyles would likely lineup in the slot on sets with three or more receivers while Nate Burleson and Calvin Johnson hold down the outsides, but will have to fight off second-year performer Titus Young to get playing time in the slot.

He will also have to share targets with former OSU Cowboy Brandon Pettigrew, who has evolved into an impressive pass-catcher at the tight end position for the Lions.

Donald Stephenson, 74th overall, Kansas City Chiefs

Stephenson, at 6-6, 305 pounds, was the starting left tackle for the Sooners during his junior and senior seasons at OU.

He was an honorable mention All-Big 12 on the offensive line by both the league's coaches and the Associated Press.

Stephenson played high school football at Blue Springs High School in Blue Springs, Missouri, which is less than 20 miles away from his new home of Kansas City.

Stephenson helped anchor an impressive offensive line at Oklahoma that allowed just 11 sacks the entire year. His performance as a senior was highlighted by 16 knockdowns against Texas A&M.

Kansas City's second pick of the draft, offensive guard Jeff Allen of Illinois, was selected 44th overall and pairs with Stephenson to help aid the Chiefs in providing protection for quarterback Matt Cassel.

Jamell Fleming, 80th overall, Arizona Cardinals

Oklahoma defensive back Jamell Fleming was selected 80th overall to Arizona in Friday night's portion of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Fleming is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound corner from Arlington, Texas and contributed in all four of his years as a Sooner.

Fleming missed a couple of games this past season with an arthroscopic knee surgery, but still put up some big numbers.

He was an All-Big 12 first team performer with 10 pass break-ups and two interceptions and was named the Insight Bowl Defensive MVP.

Fleming was the Cardinals' second selection of the draft, with their first coming at No. 13 overall in Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd.
