OKLAHOMA CITY -- Both Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy and Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops have been named to the midseason watch list for the 2011 Bear Bryant Coach of the Year Award watch list, the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association announced Wednesday.
Gundy has led the Cowboys to a 7-0 record to start the season for just the third time in school history, as well as OSU's highest BCS ranking, currently sitting at No. 3. Statistically, the Cowboys are one of the best offensive teams in the nation, ranking third in total offense, second in both pass offense and scoring offense, and first in turnover margin.
The Sooners currently sit at 6-1 under Stoops, and aren't far behind the Cowboys in the statistical rankings. OU is fourth in both total offense and pass offense, while coming in at seventh in total offense. Stoops has claimed the prize once before, in the Sooners National Championship season in 2000.
