Oklahoma Lawmakers Question DHS Commissioners During Friday's Hearing

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Two of the Department of Human Services' nine commissioners attended a hearing called Friday by lawmakers intent on bringing change to the embattled state agency.

Steven Dow and Anne Roberts, two of the most recent appointments to the DHS Commission, took questions from a handful of Representatives at the Capitol Friday morning.

The lawmakers wanted to know, among other things, to what extent the Commission discussed any of the specific, tragic child death cases in its meetings.

"As a general rule, I would say that the level of discussion on individual cases has been pretty lacking, in my opinion," Dow said.

Both Dow and Roberts made clear they believe, under its new leadership, the Commission is now moving the right direction and intends to be more responsive to the agency's problems.
