STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma State University Alumni Association announced Tuesday that former Oklahoma State basketball star Desmond Mason has been named the Grand Marshal for Oklahoma State's homecoming, themed "Where Your Story Began."
"Desmond was chosen as this year's Homecoming Grand Marshal because he represents what OSU is all about," said OSU Alumni Association President Larry Shell said in a press release. "He is a successful alumnus who is well known and well loved by our alumni, and he has had many great accomplishments in his life."
Mason played under head coach Eddie Sutton from 1996-2000, majoring in studio art while on campus, and was selected by the Seattle Supersonics with the 17th pick in the 2000 NBA Draft, but never forgot where he got his start.
"My story began at the Eddie Sutton Basketball Bash in 1996," Mason says. "As a freshman, I did a backwards slam dunk in front of a packed house and broke the backboard. My favorite Homecoming memories were always preparing for the basketball bash and watching the football game."
As part of his responsibilities, Mason will lead the Sea of Orange homecoming parade and hand out homecoming trophies during the Cowboys Oct. 29 game against the Baylor Bears.
