MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- An Oklahoma City man is run over several times following a fight with a friend in Midwest City.

It happened around 2:15 a.m. Monday morning in the 1700 block of Hudiburg Drive when police say they received a 911 call from a concerned citizen.

The caller reported seeing a man run over by a white pickup truck. When officers arrived, they found Kyle Eaves, 23, lying in the roadway covered with blood, but conscious. Police said Eaves told them he got into a fight with a friend, John David Mallonee, over a girl. When the fight turned physical, Eaves told police he ran south on Hudiburg Drive from S.E. 15th Street.

According to police, Mallonee chased Eaves in a 1999 white Ford F150 pickup truck to a parking lot on the Rose State College campus. Eaves told police he ran up to a building to seek shelter, but Mallonee allegedly jumped the curb and drove around the protective concrete barriers and hit him. The building also sustained minor damage.

Police said Eaves told officers he was run over several times and then ran back to Hudiburg Drive where he was hit again.

Eaves was transported to OU Medical Center and underwent emergency surgery for internal injuries. He's listed in serious condition.

Acting on more calls about a possible DUI driver in Midwest City, police eventually caught up with Mallonee at S.E. 15th Street and Air Depot Road. Mallonee was arrested for driving under the influence.

At the time of Mallonee's arrest, officers also noticed blood on the front of the truck and a bloody handprint on one of the tires. The truck was seized and brought to the Midwest City Police Department for processing after a search warrant was obtained.

"This easily could have been a homicide and we hope our victim survives his injuries," said Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes. "We are grateful for the alert citizen who called in and the fact the person was able to give a good description of the suspect truck as it left the scene, despite it being nighttime."

Mallonee is being held for the DUI charge and also faces a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to kill. His bond is set at $41,000.
