NORMAN, Oklahoma – The Oklahoma Sooners faced some in-state competition Saturday at the Nike Invitational and OU came away with a sweep of the Golden Eagles.
The No. 16 ranked Sooners topped ORU in three straight sets by finals of 25-16, 25-17, and 25-15.
ORU got out to an early lead in the first set, but OU came back and eventually tied the game at 12-12. The Sooners then went on a 9-0 run to boost them to the 25-16 win.
In the second set, the Sooners got out to an early lead, and ORU never led in the set that finished with the Sooner winning 25-17.
The Sooners completed the three set sweep in the final game winning 25-15.
OU senior Brianne Barker registered 29 assists and 12 digs, marking her 59th career double-double and second in as many days. Senior Suzy Boulavsky, sophomore Sallie McLaurin and freshman Tara Dunn contributed six kills each. Junior Maria Fernanda registered 17 digs.
For ORU, Sheina Fernandes had seven kills, followed by Tatum Fredeen with five. Bruna Silva contributed 19 digs. As a team, ORU hit .033.
As a team, the Sooners had eight service aces, highlighted by two each from Barker and Eden Williams. McLaurin led the Sooners with a .400 hitting percentage.
Both teams return to action Saturday night with ORU facing SMU at 5 p.m. followed by OU against Missouri State at 7 p.m.
