GUTHRIE, Oklahoma -- The Guthrie Bluejays have tons of experience returning from an 11-2 run that took them to the state semifinals a season ago, including seven starters on the offensive side of the ball.
Leading the charge for the Bluejays is junior quarterback Byran Dutton, who is now in his third year at the helm for Guthrie, after passing for more than 5,000 yards and 55 touchdowns in his first two seasons at quarterback.
"I think [Bryan] is a lot more comfortable [starting at quarterback]," head coach Rafe Watkins said. "As a freshman, he was a little scared – which he should be – but he came through and led us to the semifinals that year."
Anchoring the unity trying to keep Dutton upright will be Tulsa commit Blake Belcher, who committed to the Golden Hurricane just three weeks before the start of his senior season. The 6-foot-6-inch, 271-pound tackle had offers from Oregon State, Arizona and Stanford before committing to TU.
The Bluejays will open their season at 7:30 p.m. Sep. 2 on the road against the Duncan Demons.
