2 Vacant Homes Catch Fire In Oklahoma City Thursday Morning

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City firefighters battled two house fires in vacant homes Thursday morning.

Oklahoma City firefighters said a house that caught fire just before 6 a.m. Thursday morning in the 1700 block of N.E. 20th Street was vacant.

When they first arrived, firefighters had trouble entering the home due to the home having barred windows and only one entrance.

Firefighters said the blaze could have been caused by an electrical problem. Crews said they have not seen an unusual number of vacant house fires in recent weeks, and right now they do not have reason to believe the fire is suspicious.

Another vacant home caught fire Thursday morning in the 2000 block of N.W. 32nd Street.

No one was found to be in the home. Firefighters said that it was difficult to get inside the home as there was only a single entry into the home. The fire burned intensely, but was extinguished quickly.

The fire burned a power line serving the home. Firefighters said the downed power line was a safety concern while they were fighting the fire. OG&E was called to the scene to cut the power at the pole.

The fire's cause has not been determined and an investigation is ongoing.
