BEGGS, Oklahoma -- Classes are canceled for the remainder of the week at Beggs Public Schools in Okmulgee County after a student was diagnosed with viral meningitis.
A statement placed on the district's website Wednesday said middle school student does not have the more serious bacterial meningitis and that canceling classes is a precaution.
The statement said classes are off for Thursday and Friday -- effectively shutting down the school for the remainder of the year.
There will be no classes for the next two weeks because of the holiday break.
This is not the life-threatening bacterial meningitis which killed two students in Oologah last spring.
Administrators said the district wants to take every precaution to keep students safe.
