GUTHRIE, Oklahoma -- Guthrie's downtown Christmas celebration begins Saturday as visitors to the historic town step back into the Victorian era. The annual Territorial Christmas Celebration starts at 4:30 p.m. with a Christmas parade.
After an official announcement from the Territorial Governor, visitors can enjoy the journey to Bethlehem with Mary and Joseph at 5 p.m. Live actors and animals will portray the Christmas story.
"There is no other event in Oklahoma like Guthrie's Territorial Christmas celebration," said Mary Coffin, Guthrie Chamber of Commerce president.
"The town transforms from the 21st Century to the 19th Century. We'll have candlelight trolley rides, carolers, peanut vendors and decorated store windows depicting Victorian Guthrie. Throughout the month, we'll also have a variety of entertainment including the popular Pollard Theatre presentation of A Territorial Christmas Carol: An Oklahoma Tradition."
Other Territorial Christmas Celebration activities include the Territorial Homes Tour on December 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; Victorian Walk Evenings on December 11 & 18; Candlelight Trolley Tours on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays in December; plus various concerts at the Double Stop Fiddle Shop.
