OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Zoo has been missing some rather large animals, but while they elephants are away, they are getting a brand new habitat.
NEWS 9 got a first look at the elephants' new exhibit.
The elephants are living at the Tulsa Zoo during renovations. One of Oklahoma City's elephants in pregnant and she is due next spring. The Asian Elephant will deliver her baby in the new habitat.
"This is definitely one of the top five in terms of size for elephants in the country," said Dwight Scott the Executive Director of the OKC Zoo.
The state of the art, $13 million, 9.5 acre exhibit has an entirely new look with pools and waterfalls that should make the Asian Elephants feel right at home.
"I think it's really designed after a Thai fishing village," said Tommy Bryant, Director of Buildings and Grounds at the Oklahoma City Zoo.
The habitat should be finished in the spring.
