Oklahoma City Council Set to Vote on Grand Prix Proposal

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma City council is set to decide if it wants a downtown Grand Prix race for at least the next five years.

The agenda for Tuesday morning's council meeting includes a vote on a proposed contract with Oklahoma City Grand Prix LLC, a group seeking to bring an American Le Mans Series race to the city.

Under the deal, the city would pay $7 million for an urban race course and the promoters, led by local businessman Trent Ward and longtime sports executive Brad Lund, would pay that amount back over a 10-year period.

Last week, Mayor Mick Cornett said he was not sure the proposal would pass. ALMS spokesman Bob Dickinson says the series is "eager to get things approved" so that a race can come to Oklahoma City.
