Carney Police Chief to Be Topic of Town Board Meeting

CARNEY, Oklahoma -- The Carney Police Chief is on paid administrative leave after the town board voted on the decision Thursday night.

The decision stemmed from allegations that surfaced back in April about Police Chief Greg Wilson. Wilson allegedly filed fraudulent documents claiming two officers were full-time employees to get them certified with CLEET but they were not.

"I told my boys and my confidants and my friends I don't know where I'll be tomorrow, but I know I'll be exactly where God wants me to be, and that's all that matters," Wilson said.

The assistant police Chief Curtis Rackley will be the interim chief for now.

A special meeting will be taking place next Thursday on the fate of Carney's Police Chief.

Lincoln County D.A. Richard Smotherman said he reached a plea deal agreement with Carney Police Chief Greg Wilson, who gave up his CLEET certification as an officer to avoid criminal charges.

NEWS 9 obtained a letter to CLEET that stated Wilson had voluntarily surrendered his certification card for medical reasons.

"I do not feel that I can effectively carry out my duties as a peace officer given the injuries I sustained while on active duty in the United States Army which have become more debilitating with the passage of time," the letter to CLEET stated.
