OKLAHOMA CITY -- A free medical clinic will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 17 at the Hamilton Field House at the University of Central Oklahoma. The clinic is set up to help those who do not have access to medical care or insurance, and is being hosted by UCO's Department of Nursing.
Volunteer physicians, nurse practitioners, physician's assistants, nurses, dentists and counselors will provide cost-free care for patients including basic health exams and basic treatments for aliments ranging from toothaches to depression and anxiety.
Patients will be seen on a first come, first served basis.
"This clinic is important because it will pair people with free care and the appropriate resources to take better care of their health when they might not have been able to afford to do so before," said Nancy Patterson, Nursing instructor at Central.
"We are very lucky to have a great group of volunteer physicians and other medical professionals who want to make this clinic a success by serving those who need help."
Although no laboratory or x-rays will be provided, referrals to appropriate community and medical resources will be given to those needing further examination or treatment. Prescriptions also will be given at a discounted rate or for free from local pharmacies.
Sponsors for the free clinic include Central's Department of Nursing, Baptist Integris, Martin Family Foundation and Elliott Roofing.
