CHOCTAW, Oklahoma – Crews are battling two large grass fires; N.E. 36th Street and Air Depot in Oklahoma City, and 1300 S. Indian Meridian in Choctaw.
An area of homes could possibly be in danger if the fire spreads near Choctaw.
High winds and dry conditions may have fueled the fire, but it is unclear what started the fire.
At 3:40 p.m. the Northbound lanes of Indian Meridian were closed at 15th Street in Choctaw due to wild fire. Choctaw fire crews said with the help of several other agencies, they were able to contain the blaze.
Emergency crews had to evacuate dozens of homes on Carolyn Drive, Houser Drive in the Houser Hills neighborhood, Stone Gate Drive in the Stonegate Crossing neighborhood.
The fire spanned more than 250 acres but did not destroy an structures.
No injuries were reported from the Choctaw fire.
