OKLAHOMA CITY -- Police arrested six people accused of trying to steal thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from the Target store at Pennsylvania Avenue and Memorial Road Thursday evening. They believe the suspects are part of an alleged shoplifting ring in the metro.
The suspects spotted police, armed themselves with baseball bats and ran back inside the store.
Police gave chase and eventually arrested all six. Officers say they're lucky no one was injured.
"That's certainly something that's very important to us when you're talking about a foot chase and a confrontation like this in a very crowded store just weeks before Christmas," said Oklahoma City Police MSgt. Gary Knight.
The same six are also accused of shoplifting several hundred dollars of merchandise from a southwest Oklahoma City Target earlier in the day.
Two of the suspects are also accused of beating up an Old Navy manager on Wednesday. The manager caught Janelle and Danielle Thomas, and Tanisha McCoy trying to steal items from the store at I-240 and Pennsylvania Avenue.
Janelle Thomas, Danielle Thomas and Tanisha McCoy are facing felony assault charges. The other three arrested for allegedly shoplifting from Target are facing armed robbery and larceny charges.
