Many Muslims Fear Backlash Following Ft. Hood Shooting

OKLAHAOMA CITY -- After religion raised questions of Major Nidal Hasan's motive for Thursday's shooting rampage at Fort Hood, local Muslims said they are on guard for possible backlash.

There has been major concern for backlash against the Muslims across the nation including the 12,000 who live in the Metro. As a safety precaution, they've been told to be more aware of their surroundings, whether they're going to work, to school or the mosque.

The director of information for the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City said people don't understand their way of life and the violence that happened is not a representation of their religion

"We must also remember a person does not represent all of Islam. We will openly condemn him at anytime no matter what his reasons may be no matter what his condition is. There's different ways to express yourself than through violence or murders, so we're 100 percent against this act of evil," said Saad Mohammed, Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City.

But even though there is concern over backlash against the Muslims around the metro, many have said they will continue to live their everyday normal lives and will not compromise that for anyone.

Meanwhile Hasan remains hospitalized in San Antonia and is unable to speak with investigators.
