Numerous showers and thunderstorms were expected across the Northeast on Tuesday, along with cooler temperatures and the possibility of large hail. More showers and thunderstorms were forecast from the Pacific Northwest Coast through the Northern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley. Conditions for severe weather, including damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes, were to be favorable from eastern Montana through North Dakota. Hot afternoon temperatures and moisture were expected across the Southern Plains and Southeast, with showers and thunderstorms developing later in the day. Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from a low of 33 degrees at Bryce Canyon, Utah, to a high of 120 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
