Man convicted of killing OU student

An Oklahoma City man is convicted in the shooting death of a 21-year-old OU student. Karras Harrison shot Paul Shanor in the chest at a hotel fraternity party in 2006.

A Payne County jury convicted an Oklahoma City man of first-degree murder Wednesday.

Karras Harrison, 23, was charged with killing Paul Alejandro Shanor in 2006 at an Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity party in Stillwater, Okla. The jury deliberated for five hours before returning the guilty verdict for Harrison.

Shanor, 21, was an Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity member from the University of Oklahoma who was attending the fraternity party at a hotel. The hotel party followed an Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity dance at the Oklahoma State University Student Union, which authorities said Harrison attended.

Harrison was not allowed into the hotel party, and prosecutors said he responded to the situation by firing a .45-caliber Glock semiautomatic pistol repeatedly into the room. One of the shots hit Shanor in the chest. Shanor died during surgery at a Stillwater hospital.

The jury recommended a life-sentence for Harrison on the murder count and 10-year sentences for each of the three counts of assault and battery for wounding three other students.

Formal sentencing for Harrison is scheduled for February 15.
