While the snow makes for pretty winter pictures, it also creates traffic problems for drivers. Conditions are hazardous, and authorities are urging drivers to be careful and go slowly as they travel across the snow-impacted areas of the state.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Betsy Randolph says one person died Tuesday on U.S. 281 near Gracemont in a head-on collision when one vehicle skidded across the center line of the roadway. No names were released.

Randolph says dozens of accidents were reported, but no others with serious injury.

One accident involved an ambulance and a sheriff's patrol car. Emergency Medical Services Authority spokeswoman Lara O'Leary says an EMSA ambulance collided with a Canadian County sheriff's patrol car Tuesday morning, but there were no injuries.

The News 9 Weather Team says 4 to 8 inches will fall in the "action area," which stretches to Lincoln County. However, the majority of the metro is expected to be on the low end of that amount, receiving 2 to 4 inches of snow. Some isolated metro areas may receive more.

News 9 Meteorologist Lacy Swope says although 8 inches of snow could fall in certain Oklahoma cities, it probably won't accumulate because the ground is too warm.

The real trouble may come Wednesday morning during rush hour. Temperatures are expected to dip below freezing Tuesday night, turning slush into ice on streets, bridges and overpasses.

The winter storm will move out of the state Tuesday night. The weather is expected to turn sunny Wednesday with temperatures in the 40s.
