The Oklahoma City Barons is teaming up with the Oklahoma Blood Institute for a blood drive on Saturday.
The blood drive will be held from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. inside the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City. The drive precedes the Barons game against Grand Rapids at 7 p.m. You must be at least 16 to donate.
One of the players knows just how important donating is.
As an infant, Team Captain Bryan Helmer's daughter, Rylan Helmer, had a serious blood disorder and needed transfusions. Thanks to blood donors, she overcame the condition and is now a healthy six year old.
Rylan Helmer loves to play hockey. She said she hopes people will come out this Saturday to donate.
"They're helping the world and people, because that would help people staying alive," she said.
Each donor will get a Barons t-shirt and a free health screening.
