Interstate 35 is now open following the investigation and clearing of a fatal accident near 122nd Street.

Just before 1 p.m., OHP says a semi driven by 56-year-old Randy Edwards was traveling southbound on I-35 when it suddenly veered into the northbound lanes, and crashed into another semi and a car.

Drivers of both 18-wheelers were trapped for several minutes while firefighters worked to free them.  The driver of the northbound semi was killed.  Edwards was transported to St. Anthony Hospital with head and trunk injuries.

The driver of the car was not injured.

Troopers are withholding the name of the dead semi driver until next of kin have been notified.

The northbound I-35 on ramp from 122nd Street was still closed late Friday night.
