Father Charged With Murder In 5-Year-Old's Death

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma County prosecutors have charged a man with first-degree murder in the death of his 5-year-old girl.

Oklahoma City police arrested 31-year-old Sean Brooks June 4 after receiving a call from an apartment complex in reference to an unresponsive child. When they arrived, police say they found Serenity Deal with signs of abuse to her body.

According to an affidavit filed in the case, the state Medical Examiner's office reported finding a gash on Serenity's scalp, a large bruise on her forehead and other bruises and lacerations on parts of her body.

Brooks remained in the Oklahoma County jail. Court records didn't indicate whether he had retained an attorney to represent him yet.
