GUTHRIE, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and Logan County Sheriff's deputies have identified a man found dead in a field near W. Waterloo Road and S. May Ave. in Guthrie Monday afternoon.
A farmer found the body around 1 p.m. and called the Logan County Sheriff's Office. Fingerprints proved the body was 24-year-old Jeremy Toles of Midwest City.
"He's not a body. He was somebody he was somebody to us," said Jeremy's cousin Stacey Toles.
The 24-year-old was proud of his last name. He even had it tattooed on his back. That's how his family realized what had happened.
"When they had the last name wrong we automatically knew, because he has that tattoo on his back," Jeremy's cousin Latoya Toles-Crawford said.
Toles graduated from Star Spencer High School in 2006 and was a cornerback on the football team. He received a scholarship to Langston University to play football, but school officials said he stayed less than a semester.
In 2009, the 24-year-old pleaded guilty to concealing stolen property and carrying a concealed weapon.
Police said his death appeared suspicious and believe Toles' body had been dumped a couple of days before it was found.
Jeremy's family said he never showed up to pick up his daughter on Saturday.
"I don't understand. I didn't think he had any enemies or anything," said Toles-Crawford.
Jeremy's family is sending out a plea. They're asking for anyone who may know anything to come forward.
"It's just hard for us to stomach how somebody could do that to him, just dump him like trash," said Stacey Toles.
The medical examiner is performing an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. OSBI agents and Logan Co. Sheriff's deputies are continuing to investigate.
Anyone with information regarding this case should call either the OSBI at 1-800-522-8017 or the Logan Co. Sheriff's Office at 405-282-4100.
