MIDWEST CITY -- Oklahoma County prosecutors have formally charged a 17-year-old with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his grandparents.
Investigators say Kyle Smith killed David and Rose Garrick with a machete on March 22 in the couple's Midwest City home. Police say Smith also killed the family's dog before he and two of his friends set the house on fire.
According to the police report, Smith made a video of the murder scene before setting the house ablaze, and told a friend he did so because he wanted to "make a memory of the murder."
Smith has now been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree arson, animal cruelty and conspiracy to commit accessory to murder.
Two of Smith's friends have also been charged. Dustin Martin, 19, and Jacob Leblanc, 17, have both been charged with conspiracy to commit accessory to murder and first-degree arson.
